Our Biotech Platform

Nature’s chemistry, reinvented.

At Abydos, we’ve built a biotechnology platform based on precision fermentation.

By pairing a unique library of 50+ oleaginous bacterial strains with their optimal feedstocks, we can fine-tune the production of oils and fats to achieve specific fatty acid profiles.

This modular approach lets us design high-value, sustainable lipids for diverse applications,  redefining how the world makes its most essential ingredients.

Our process

Agro-industrial sidestreams

Our waste-to-oil technology uses low-cost agro-industrial sidestreams as input for our process.

Oleaginous bacteria

These microorganisms naturally produce large amounts of lipids. Our bacterial strains are capable of accumulating up to 80% of their dry weight in oil.

Match the feedstock

We select an option from a unique library of 50+ bacterial strains available in our platform. Each strain is matched with the optimal feedstock to obtain a particular fatty acid profile. This is how we target various oil-like products.

Brewing & purification

Our bioprocess experts optimize the fermentation parameters feeding the microogranisms with the necessary sugar components to make them thrive. This controlled environment maximizes the amount of oil and biomass that is being produced.

The final product is a refined product that closely matches the chemical composition and functionality of natural oils and fats.
